|Super Smash Bros. Series Community|
|Community Type||Special Community|
|Launch Date||June 11th, 2013|
|Related Communities||Director's Room|
The community was flooded with memes, trolls, and many more random and off-topic posts. It was also infamous for users requesting very unlikely characters in Smash such as Goku, Shrek(usually just a troll request), and other characters from anime and cartoons which would often result into arguments. It was also full of arguments surrounding Ridley being playable, this eventually lead to the creation of Bigley and "Ridley is to big" fad. When people would refer to Miiverse, they usually meant the Super Smash Bros. Community.
The Super Smash Bros. Series Community was shut down on 10/02/2014 and was relaunched and rebranded as the Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U Community, which can be found here.
Pic of the Day
Pic of the Day was an internal update done 5 days a week from the director of Super Smash Bros, Sakurai on the Director's Room of the Super Smash Bros. Community. He posted a picture from the game along with a caption to accompany it. Sometimes, he reveals characters or big updates regarding the progress of the game.
What many people didn't realize is that Sakurai posts first thing in the morning.
HistoryThe Super Smash Bros. Series Community launched on 6/11/2013, shortly after Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U was announced at E3 2013 and during a developer interview with Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of the Super Smash Bros. series. Ever since, the community had become a home for off-topic posts, bad character requests, and inevitable Smash Bros. fans. This community was also the go-to place for events like #MiiverseAfterDark and Bikini Day. It was looked upon as the main hub of Miiverse where many users would go to, along with the YouTube Community. The community was the birth place of the meme Bucket and during its first year on Mmiiverse the "Shrek is love Shrek is life meme". It was incredibly diverse and had many different discussions in it. The community allowed users such as The Bard, Rosaline as well as Nostalgic to rise to Miiverse fame.
The Super Smash Bros. Series Community, like some other Miiverse communities, also included a "Director's Room Community" which showed off a daily Pic of the Day from Sakurai. At first, the posts didn't contain any news, and were just screenshots of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, but as time came, The community got photos of the 3DS version, and actual news (such as new characters, stages, items, and menus). Because some of the Pic of the Days being a bit "trollish", Sakurai would go on to be known as a troll. (For example, Sakurai posted a screenshot of a Mii Swordfighter using Meta Knight's mask 2 days before Meta Knight was actually confirmed saying "I'm Meta Knight, joining the fight!")
End of the Super Smash Bros. Series community
On 10/02/2014, the Super Smash Bros. community was converted to the Super Smash Bros for 3DS/Wii U Community. The reason why it originally didn't share the community with the Wii U version was because it came out a week later. As usual, all of the posts that were originally made on the Super Smash Bros. Series community have been moved to the Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U Community.
The first player post other than Masahiro Sakurai's was by an American user named Chris, despite the game not being released in America until 10/3/2014. The post may be found here.
AftermathFor a short while, many Smashers and Off-Topic Users moved to the Volleyball Community following the shutdown of the Super Smash Bros. Series Community. Then they discovered that The Legend of Zelda Series Community was mostly dead and didn't have the Player Posts option, so the Smashers moved to the Legend of Zelda Series Community. The users in the Legend of Zelda Community, referred to as Hylians were not happy with the Smashers making the community off-topic, so after months of conflict, the Smashers were forced to move to the Wii Fit U Community. On July 29, 2015 the Miiverse redesign was unveiled, resulting in the Smashers moving to the Zelda community again. The next day, they left the Zelda community after discovering the New Super Luigi U Community (NSLU) was also unchanged.
Miiverse has spawned many memes thanks to this community; the most notable one being Bigley. Some memes on this community were pre-existent, such as Shrek, Sanic Hegehog, and Cory Baxter. While Miiverse has only spawned one notable quote (y cant metroid crawl?), the various bad character requests the community has made like Shrek and Goku have become memes in the Super Smash Bros. Series Community. At a point, a hashtag called "#BigleyInternational" was created. The hashtag single-handedly caused all 3 versions of the Super Smash Bros. Series Community in the Americas, Europe, and Japan, to receive at least two Bigley-related posts every minute for nearly a month.
