In 2014, several users on Miiverse, most notably John!, Basketball, Cpt.Falcon, RighanRed, Suika, and Osamaniqua, created a fandom around this film, making many posts about it. They managed to incorporate the Space Jam meme into other memes, creating sort of a meme-mashup.
To advertise the initial release of the film, a Space Jam song was created to be the main theme of the movie, performed and written by none other than the Quad City DJ's. It became incredibly popular, and eventually of course, made itself onto Miiverse. Some users use this song as their personal theme; the internet, particularly YouTube community, creates Space Jam mashups, using the Space Jam theme and literally any possible song ever thought of, from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air to the Super Mario Brothers Theme.
Space Jam 2
There are rumors circulating the internet about a potential second Space Jam film. Some claim that LeBron James, a star basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers who appears in many memes himself, will star in the sequel, taking the place of Michael Jordan, who is far beyond his peak in basketball. The rumors peaked when it was announced that LeBron held a meeting with Warner Bros. in the off season of 2015, some claiming it was evidence that James would star in the film. James himself has given thought to the idea, saying that he would love to star in a hypothetical Space Jam sequel.
