Goku (Real name: Kakarot) is the main protagonist of the Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT and Dragon Ball Super series by Akira Toriyama, considered the most popular anime of all time. His name roughly means "awakened to emptiness". He was originally supposed to be a parody of Sun Wukong from the Journey to the West legend, even the series was a parody of it.
He is commonly drawn on the YouTube Community and requested for the Super Smash Bros series, mostly due to the games being made by Namco and the possibilities portrayed from fangames, mods, etc.
However, Sakurai stated only characters originated from games have a chance, this rule may change in future instalments. (But don't count on it)
Goku has started in the Dragon Ball series (obviously) and became popular around the world, even becoming a positive role-model for kids in Japan (also in the USA).
Goku has stared in educational Dragon Ball films titled: "Goku's traffic safety" and "Goku's fire brigade" with goku teaching safety to children, but only aired in Japan.
Goku has stared in video games since 1986. Not only Dragon Ball, but has been in crossover titles and made some references. These games include:
- Dragon Ball: Dragon Daihikyō
- Dragon Ball: Shenlong no Nazo (also known as Dragon Power in the USA)
- Dragon Ball: Daimaō Fukkatsu
- Dragon Ball 3: Goku Den
- Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout
